Voting Tips for The Upcoming Election On Nov. 6th, 2012

Greetings SBC residents,

As we watch the horrific scenes of destruction visited upon our neighbors to the north by hurricane Sandy, let's give thanks that we did not suffer the same fate. Also, let's seriously pray for them and make donations to those relief agencies that are providing assistance to them.
Here is a website with info on those agencies

Voting Tips for The Upcoming Election On Nov. 6th, 2012

Here are SIX SIMPLE STEPS you can take on Election Day to protect your voting rights.

1. Call the local elections office to verify the location of your polling place. Locations may have changed, and a vote cast at the wrong place might not get counted.

2. Bring identification to the polls, preferably a government-issued photo ID with your... name and registered street ad...dress.

3. Ask for help from poll workers and check posted information signs if you have questions or need assistance.

4. Make sure you cast a vote. If you are in line when the polls close, stay in line because you are entitled to vote.

5. If you are offered a provisional ballot, ask if you can cast a regular ballot by providing additional ID or by going to another polling place. If no alternative is available or practical, cast a provisional ballot.

6. If you have a voting rights problem, ask to speak with the chief election official or a voting rights volunteer at the polls, or call the toll-free nationwide Election Protection Hotline, 1-866-OUR-VOTE, a project of a coalition of groups, including the AFL-CIO, promoting voting rights.

In the event that you are planning to vote Democrat on Nov. 6, when you go into the voting booth, DO NOT SELECT THE BUTTON "all democrats" FIRST, because Barack Obama will be excluded from the vote.

However, if we choose "Barack Obama" first, and THEN "all democrats", he will earn our votes. For some reason this information has not been made known to many.

For more information on voting go the Norfolk Office of Elections

I am sure I am not the only one who will be glad when this election is over. Too many ads and too many lies.

Please VOTE! Now more than before.

Mosquito Control in Stonebridge Crossing

Greetings Fellow Stone bridge Residents!

I am sure you have read about the deadly mosquito-borne West Nile Virus in Dallas,Texas, and the tragic effects on those who have been infected.

Stonebridge Crossing has a large storm water retention pond which is fed by a marshy stream which branches from the Elizabeth River. That, and standing water on our poperties contribute to the breeding of mosquitoes in our neighborhood.

On Granite Arch, which faces the pond, the mosquitoes are at swarm levels. We cannot sit on our porches without being attacked. Please make sure you and especially your little children use a repellent when outside.

Here is a very informative City of Norfolk video hosted by Terrance Afer-Anderson about mosquito control in Norfolk.

You may contact Norfolk's mosquito control office at:

No April Civic League Meeting, Useful Links, Other Stuff

Greetings Fellow SBC Residents!

First, I must inform you that there WILL NOT be a Civic League meeting on Monday, April 9th because the meeting place, Second Calvary Baptist Church will be closed.

As you may know severe storms have begun earlier than usual in the mid-western part of the country. The tidewater area has been spared these storms so far. Read last year's post about recognizing the signs of an approaching storm or tornado here: Tornado Signs

Here are some useful links to the City of Norfolk's press releases.

Volunteer Opportunities to help fight homelessness in Norfolk

As a result of the "warm" winter we can expect a very large mosquito population as well as other insects. Please keep your property free of standing water which provides a breeding place for them.

Also the Nutria, a large rodent, has invaded the Virginia coast. They originated in Florida and have been moving north and inhabiting the wetland marshes, which they destroy. They are a little larger than a rat and have distinctive orange colored teeth and somewhat shaggy hair. If you spot one in our community, please notify Norfolk's Animal Control.

That's it for now. Don't forget to visit our FaceBook Page at www.facebook/stonebridgecrossing
